January 10, 1998
98-008432

January 14, 1998
98-0074
Issaquah (Beaver Lake)
1500 callout for a missing 79 yo female Alzheimer's subject in Beaver Lake area outside of Issaquah, a suburban area with houses on 1/4 acre lots. Subject went for daily walks as part of her routine. However, on this day, there was a heavy rainstorm that came through the area and the weather went from 50-degrees and overcast to 40-degrees and raining. We deployed three trailing teams from the residence to establish direction of travel and extent of search area. Concurrent to this, we deployed airscent dog teams in the nearby parks and greenbelts. The trailing teams travelled to a nearby arterial but did not progress beyond this point. This event lead to two conclusions: the subject was picked up at this location or the subject returned to the house. We next deployed an airscent dog team, handler Eric Swenson and German Shepard Jasper, starting at this arterial and working the residential yards back towards the residence. Jasper alerted on the subject in the backyard of a residence several doors down from the subject's residence. She was severely hypothermic and was (carefully) transported in a heated ambulance to a local hospital where she recovered from this event. (74 hrs)

January 18, 1998

After arriving at search base, we learned that another search dog group had arrived before us and were preparing to take the 15-mile snow mobile ride to the scene. Our teams returned home without leaving base. The subject was located, deceased, the next day by search dogs. (37 hrs)
