The subject was known to walk from the playfield to her residence 2 miles away. Our effort was suspended at 0530 after our teams were unable to locate the subject and the morning traffic was starting. April 29, 1998
98-0723
Vashon Island
2000 callout for a missing 88 yo male in a suburban area. The subject lived alone and had not been seen or contacted his family for several days. Local fire had responded earlier and was unable to locate the subject. We responded with two trailing teams and four airscent teams. We deployed the trailing dogs from the subject's residence and airscent dogs in the area as well as the adjacent beach. The trailing teams did not leave develop a trail leaving the man's property. We suspended using the trailing teams due to the highly contaminated scent of the subject in this area. We moved the airscent teams onto the subject's property. Pam Parker and Smokey located the subject approximately 50 yards from the back of his shack. The subject met the classic Alzheimer's profile of moving until stopped and then going to ground and not getting back up. The subject was alive, although mildly hypothermic, and quite confused. We packaged the subject, transported him to a local ambulance and then scooted to catch the last ferry boat for the night. (49 hrs)
