Sad Update

King County Search Dogs has lost a trailing great. mADDee was a trailing standard bearer and deployed on over 100 search missions with her handler Joanne during her 13 year career. mADDee had an exuberant and infectious working drive. She introduced countless KCSD recruits to the real meaning of ‘running’ a trail yet she often counted her out of breath support team at intersections to make sure she hadn’t lost anyone. mADDee seemed to have even more fun working when the conditions were harsh. We are still here to help

King County Search Dogs have suspended all training sessions and in-person meetings to help manage the spread of COVID-19 in our community. Nevertheless, KCSD is continuing to respond to search emergencies working with the King County Sheriff’s Office to minimize risk to our members. For example, yesterday K9s Jet, Coulee, Natick and Lincoln were deployed on a search mission to help our search and rescue colleagues in Kittitas County. KCSD is grateful for the support it receives from the community it serves and wants you to know our commitment is undiminished.

Faster than a speeding bullet, It’s Jet the Search Dog! Join us in congratulating K9 Jet and Handler Mathew on successfully completing their airscent pretest. True to her name Jet raced through 40 acres of forest and found her ‘lost’ search subjects in half the allotted time. Look for them zooming around at the next King County Search and Rescue mission.

Congrats Josh and Natick!

Join us in congratulating K9 Natick and his handler Josh on passing the National Search Dog Alliance (NSDA) Land Human Remains Detection certification test recently. Natick, a chocolate lab, is one of our most effective search dogs and is known as the “Long Ranger” in his airscent work.

Search Dogs Save Lives!

Join us in congratulating K9 Bailey and her handler Robby on their first find! Last week KCSD Dog Team 11 was deployed on a mission to find an individual in the wilderness of eastern King County. After completing their initial assignment Robby and Bailey went back in to a different area based on new information gathered by King County Search and Rescue. Starting from a campsite Bailey was able to locate the subject a considerable distance away in rugged terrain and return to indicate her find to Robby. Congratulations to K9 Cleo and her handler Chad for passing their airscent certification evaluation yesterday! They found both their test subjects in 40 acres of dense forest within two hours despite the classic northwest mix of cold April snow and rain.

Want to be a Search Dog?

Come to one of the 2019 King County Search Dogs membership information sessions to learn more about the application process, training process and volunteer commitment. Each session will feature a presentation and a chance to talk with current members. Times and dates are: April 25th – 7:30PM, May 5th – 3:30PM, and May 14th – 7:30PM. All sessions are at the north Mercer Island Fire Station; 3030 78th Ave. SE 98040. It is helpful, though not required, if you let us know you are coming at membership@kcsearchdogs.org

K9 Carlo 6/23/2007 – 2/2/2019

With heavy hearts we say goodbye to K9 Carlo after nearly ten years with KCSD. Carlo was certified in trailing and human remains detection and was unit co-founder Andy Rebmann’s 11th working dog and 7th German Shepherd partner. Carlo had a larger than life personality and was unwavering in his adoration for the human on the other end of the leash. Carlo assisted on dozens of evidence and missing persons searches, and kept Andy on his toes both at home and in the field.
