K9 Artoo, K9 Ahsoka & Joan
Artoo is a Border Collie-Australian Cattle Dog mix. His namesake combines Joan's love of Star Wars along with honoring her previous certified dog ("Artoo" + 2nd dog certified= R2D2) He is certified in airscent and human remains detection. Ahsoka is spry Border Collie-Australian Cattle Dog mix who continues Joan's tradition of Star Wars partners. "Soka" is training to be a human remains detection dog.
Joan was the recipient of the 2015 and 2024 KCSD Ted Jamieson award and was featured in an Issaquah Times article on the King County Search Dogs (see the news sections for links) and was the 2018 King County SAR volunteer of the year! Joan is one of the inaugural members of the prestigious KCSD 500 mission club. She is an operations leader who has served as Board Secretary and has been a member of KCSD since 2002.
