K9 Myka is on the trail!

King County Search Dogs is proud to announce that we have a newly certified trailing team in our ranks. Congratulations to Courtney and K9 Myka for flying through their trailing test this week! Myka is Courtney’s second search dog. They are now certified in both trailing and human remains detection (HRD). K9 Jack, Myka’s older “brother,” is also certified in two disciplines, airscent and HRD. Congratulations to K9s Coulee, Gilly, Zula, and Tesla (clockwise from the upper left) along with their handlers Greg, Kris, Jen and Chris for recent trailing re-certifications. Biannual certification and frequent training are essential for reliable search dogs and demand considerable commitment and dedication.

Search Dogs Save Lives 🐾

Responding to a 2:30 AM call out in the aftermath of the worst Seattle snowstorm in 50 years, KCSD K9 Gilly and her handler Kris were able to find an at-risk individual missing since Tuesday afternoon before the sun came up. It was Gilly’s second find in the last 6 months! A great job by the whole King County Explorer Search and Rescue, King County Search and Rescue and King County Sheriff’s Office team!!

Big news! 🎉 Congratulations to K9 Zula and our President-elect Jen for passing their trailing certification test today! They are now fully eligible for deployment on search missions: A big achievement for a great team!

Gilly’s first find 🐾

Congratulations to K9 Gilly and handler Kris for locating a missing individual (alive and well!) this afternoon in Issaquah. It was Kris and Gilly’s first find as members of King County Search Dogs. Well done! 🐾♥️
