Search Dogs Save Lives!

What did you do on the 4th of July? King County Search Dogs was called out at 2:30 AM to help King County Search and Rescue and King County Sheriff’s Office search for a hiker in Kanasket Palmer State Park. Starting out shortly after daybreak K9 Natick, Josh, and Brittney (on only her 3rd deployment) found the subject and brought him safely out to the command post by 8AM. Please join us in congratulating Josh, Brittney, Natick and all the other SAR volunteers who responded on a job well done!

Go Jet Go !

Faster than a speeding bullet, It’s Jet the Search Dog! Join us in congratulating K9 Jet and Handler Mathew on successfully completing their airscent pretest. True to her name Jet raced through 40 acres of forest and found her ‘lost’ search subjects in half the allotted time. Look for them zooming around at the next King County Search and Rescue mission.

Congrats Josh and Natick!

Join us in congratulating K9 Natick and his handler Josh on passing the National Search Dog Alliance (NSDA) Land Human Remains Detection certification test recently. Natick, a chocolate lab, is one of our most effective search dogs and is known as the “Long Ranger” in his airscent work.

Join us in congratulating K9 Bailey and her handler Robby on their first find! Last week KCSD Dog Team 11 was deployed on a mission to find an individual in the wilderness of eastern King County. After completing their initial assignment Robby and Bailey went back in to a different area based on new information gathered by King County Search and Rescue. Starting from a campsite Bailey was able to locate the subject a considerable distance away in rugged terrain and return to indicate her find to Robby. Who’s a good dog?

Congratulations to K9 Cleo and her handler Chad for passing their airscent certification evaluation yesterday! They found both their test subjects in 40 acres of dense forest within two hours despite the classic northwest mix of cold April snow and rain.

Big news! 🎉 Congratulations to K9 Zula and our President-elect Jen for passing their trailing certification test today! They are now fully eligible for deployment on search missions: A big achievement for a great team!

Gilly’s first find 🐾

Congratulations to K9 Gilly and handler Kris for locating a missing individual (alive and well!) this afternoon in Issaquah. It was Kris and Gilly’s first find as members of King County Search Dogs. Well done! 🐾♥️

Congratulations Joan!

Something to really brag about: Joan Hitchner, one of the longest serving Members of King County Search Dogs, was selected as the Volunteer of the year by the King County Sheriff. Over 300 missions thus far in her 16 year career. We are very proud! Ed Christian, the distinguished gentleman on the right of the photo, is the King County Search and Rescue Coordinator and was recognized as King County Deputy of the year at the same ceremony. Congratulations Oso!

K9 Oso and his handler Heather passed the KCSD airscent pre-test on Saturday finding both his ‘subjects’ in less than 90 minutes. The team is now available for missions within King County. Oso is an expert locksmith/escape artist as well as an up-and-coming search dog and is named after Oso, Washington where Heather participated in the search activities after the tragic 2014 landslide.

New Certified Airscent Dog!

A big congratulations are in order for K9 Bailey and handler Robby for passing their airscent certification. Way to go!!! Robby and Bailey (a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever) have been training with King County Search Dogs since 2013 and have been known to find an occational bear cub in addition to their search subjects. #kcsearchdogs #SARdogs
